OEM versus Aftermarket: Your Starting Point

\n

An OEM Glock frame gives you a known quantity, built to factory specifications with factory tooling. An aftermarket P80 frame, like the PF940C or PF940SC, gives you a raw platform. It's the difference between receiving a pre-assembled component and machining a billet. You are not buying a finished product; you are buying the single most controlled part for a custom build. The jig and drill bits included with our frame kits are not accessories; they are the essential tools for the initial milling operation. This process transforms a block of polymer into a serialized firearm component under your control.

\n

Your choice here dictates the entire project. If your goal is a clone of a stock service weapon, an OEM frame is the logical path. If your goal is a pistol tailored to your grip angle, stippling pattern, and component selection, a Polymer80 frame is the only logical starting point. The removal of material from the rear rail shelf and locking block channel is a non-negotiable step; it's what defines an 80% frame and separates it from a strictly regulated firearm receiver. This is the foundational work.

\n\n

Selecting the Correct Frame Model

\n

Polymer80 frames are model-specific. The PF940v2 is designed for full-size double-stack platforms like the Glock 17. The PF940C fits the compact G19 size. The PF940SC corresponds to the subcompact G26. The PF45 frame accommodates the large-frame .45 ACP/10mm models. Selecting the wrong frame for your slide and parts kit will result in an incompatibility. Your primary selection criteria are caliber and slide length. A G19 slide will not function on a PF940v2 frame without significant modification; the locking block and guide rod assembly are different.

\n

Consider the intended use. A PF940C is the most versatile platform, accepting both G19 and G17 magazines. A PF940SC offers maximum concealability. For a competition or duty-style build, the full-size PF940v2 provides a full grip and longer sight radius. We stock frame-only options and complete build kits. The frame-only listing is for builders who have already sourced their own jigs, locking blocks, and lower parts kits. The complete frame kit is the standard starting package.

\n\n

Evaluating Frame Kit Components

\n

A complete Polymer80 frame kit includes the 80% frame, a drilling jig, drill bits, and the necessary rear rail module and locking block. The quality of the metal components is critical. Inspect the rear rail module for any casting flaws or burrs that may impede smooth slide movement. The locking block must be the correct model for your frame; a PF940C locking block is not interchangeable with a PF940v2. The supplied drill bits are adequate for the polymer frame material, but many builders prefer to use a drill press for absolute perpendicularity.

  • The Frame: Check for injection molding lines. These can be cleaned up with a file. Ensure the polymer is uniformly colored without voids.
  • \n
  • The Jig: The aluminum jig halves must clamp tightly around the frame. Any significant play can lead to misaligned pin holes.
  • \n
  • The Rails: The stainless steel rails should be finished smoothly. Test-fit them into the frame channels before committing to drilling.
  • \n
  • The Pins: The included roll pins are correct for the application. Have a set of parallel jaw pliers for installation.

Next Steps in the Build Process

\n

After successfully milling your frame, the next phase is parts installation and slide fitting. The lower parts kit installation requires patience; the trigger housing pin is often the most challenging. A proper armorer's punch set is recommended. When fitting the slide, expect a break-in period. A slightly tight fit between the slide and rails is normal and will wear in after 50-100 rounds. Function check the safety mechanisms repeatedly before live fire. The following grid details the specific frame models and kits currently available.

Our Story
Questions & Answers

Frequently asked

Which Glock model is each frame compatible with?
Our frames are designed to be compatible with standard Generation 3 Glock parts. Please check the specific product page listing for the exact model match (e.g., a 'PF940SC' frame kit is designed for a Glock 26/27). Generation compatibility is keyβ€”Gen3 components are standard. Our frames do not accept later-generation parts without modification.
What is your shipping policy and time frame?
We offer free standard shipping on orders over $99. Once your order is processed, domestic shipments typically arrive within 3-5 business days. International shipping is unavailable. You'll receive tracking information via email once your order ships. We do not ship to states or localities where such products are prohibited by law.
Do you accept cryptocurrency payments?
Yes. We accept Bitcoin (BTC) and Tether (USDT) via the integrated MoonPay gateway at checkout. Select the 'Pay with Crypto' option to complete your payment. This process is secure and instantaneous. All cryptocurrency transactions are final upon confirmation on the blockchain; they cannot be reversed or refunded to the original payment method.
What is your return policy?
We accept returns within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. The item must be in its original, unopened packaging and completely unused. Customized or serialized frames are final sale and cannot be returned. Please contact our support team to initiate a return and receive an RMA number before sending anything back.
Is this legal for me to purchase and build?
It is your responsibility to know and comply with all federal, state, and local laws regarding the purchase and assembly of unserialized firearm frames. FrameSmith ships only to jurisdictions where such products are legal for the end-user. We are not lawyers and cannot provide legal advice. Consult your local regulations before ordering.
Is any drilling, milling, or polishing required?
Yes. Our Polymer80 frames are partially complete 80% frames, as sold. You will need common tools and some mechanical skill to complete the remaining milling (for the recoil spring channel) and drilling (for the pin holes). The process is straightforward with a proper jig and instructions. We do not sell completed or serialized firearms.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover) through our secure payment processor. We also accept cryptocurrency payments via MoonPay (Bitcoin/USDT). All transactions are encrypted. For security, we may occasionally require additional verification for large or unusual orders. We do not accept personal checks, money orders, or wire transfers.
